Pass, pass, pass the cold Coors radio spot to someone else.

So Fred throws up the Bat signal about the lack of good radio, and who comes along to prove his point? Really trying hard here not to be an asshole, but if anyone can explain to me how the latest Coors spot deserves to be on the radio, I’ll have George Parker send you $50. Damn if I can find it to give you a link though. It must already be in the CRP (Creative Relocation Program) so nobody makes an attempt on its life.

If you haven’t heard it, it’s a large group of friends, I’m guessing in a bar, (duh), singing, “Pass, pass, pass the cold Coors Light.” But it’s sung to the tune of what sounds like it wants to be “Take me out to the ballgame” on meth. Then the fun begins as the singers pass off lyrics to one another in their own unique styles. Purposely out of tune. Purposely out of synch. Sweet. Only problem is, the people obviously can sing, yet they have them trying to sing like rejects from the first week of American Idol.

I don’t get it.

i get it

it was produced by the same creative hacks behind the coors "love train" campaign.

'nuff said.

Yeah, kinda figured it was the same shop, but, at least the TV had the typical football/girls/borrowed music thing going on that you could still recognize. (Although for pure get-out-of-my-way vehicles run amok mayhem, I prefer the Fuel spot during the SB and the recent energy drink spot where the guy clears 50 yards of his backyard so his kid can play football.)

But this radio spot. I dare anyone to listen to it and not want to punch the radio, or something. And lest anyone think, we'll I'm a creative and it's not meant for me. I asked my boy from 'Brooklyn in tha house', aka 'the Gooch,' lifelong beer-drinking Jets fan - is there any other kind – what he thought of the spot:

“WTF was that?

After that, definitely 'nuff said.

another point to consider:

fcb is in chicago, home of the cubs. the cubs are definitely a budweiser team, as bud is a primary sponsor and exclusive ballpark supplier (i think).

anyway, after iconic broadcaster harry carey died, the cubs have let guest celebrities lead the ceremonial singing of "take me out to the ballgame" during the seventh inning stretch.

i'll bet the morons at fcb were inspired by this, and maybe their lame planners even viewed the idea as a strategic tactic against bud.

it's the kind of bad thinking and execution that has forced fcb to consider merging with the creative powerhouse draft — which might mean you'll soon be hearing this radio spot with a 1-800 number tagged on the end.

Speaking of that tune, there's a new National Soccer team spot out where they show clips of all the hostile places the US has played, all to the tune of Take Me Out.

Interesting juxtaposition of the two sports, but for me, there’s a kick-ass version of that song that I’m amazed nobody’s used. On Def Comedy Jam three or four, Bernie Mac does an accapella version of the song with staggered rythms that is the best I’ve ever heard. If you’re a baseball purist, you’d freak, but if you need something with a little more mojo, listen to this version.

You will never hear the song the same way again.

according to the related post at adpulp, the radio spot may not be the work of fcb.

sorry if the shitty spot is not the the work of shitty fcb; but rather, the work of another shitty shop.

Thanks for the tip. I left a small note there.

Damn, we ADs can’t write anything short, can we.

I was trying to find a clip of Bernie Mac's version online to show friends. I thought I was the only one who remembered this. The "buy me some peanuts" part is my favorite.
