Words to retire. Please.

Today a client actually used the word ‘spiffy.’ After that, I had to come up with a list of other marketing terms that should be BFL.*

1) Spiffy.
2) Zesty.
3) ...and its cousin, Robust.
4) Sensational!
5) Fantastic!
6) Sporty.
7) Nifty.
(8) Handy may be on the bubble, not sure yet.)

Ok ad-bitches, what say you?

I think 'nifty' is a spiffy word which sportily compares the robustness of a fantastic, sensational and zesty feeling. So Nifty should stay. I agree on dumping the rest.

Hard to argue with Coolz0r's logic. Can we retire edgy, dynamic and in-your-face yet? I would also propose a ban on the following client comment, which too often has been memorized from some nasty managerial self-help book and parroted by reflex:

"I like what you've shown me, but I know you can do more (better) because you're so creative!"

'Dynamic'

Oh, that's a good one I forgot.

coolz0r: I think that's awesome!

Personally, I like spiffy - it has a certain retro feel to it. Also makes me think of zingy, although I don't know why exactly. Prefer spiffy to zingy, though. And I agree with Coolzûr on nifty. Perhaps it's the 'z' that turns me off - zingy, zesty, zany (thx Corey for bringing that one back)... zippy too? On the other hand: I do like zonked. And zombie. But now we're really off the sbuject, aren't we? BTW: agree with Corey on the/some abbreviations too - reminds me of bcbg pseudo trendy Parisian French.

This whole thread has, well, a lot of moxie.

Please, please. I beg of you. Add witty and brand engaging. Make a copywriter happy. Thank you.

me - Those are good. That gives me an idea for a thread on words used by industry people only vs. the one here on words consumers usually hear.

First, gonna need to table this issue for now. But, I will socialize this idea with the team and get consensus on it. Just to make sure the group is on-board with the concept of course.

"SB - scrumpdillyicious"

Now that just may be the best 'non-word word' created in the history of advertising.

"Developed by NASA."

Robust got the nod, but is a category fav.

As for the NASA reference, I can’t help but think of Major Nelson in I Dream of Jeanie holding a container of Tang.

Don’t know why.
