Apparently they do in the UK though. Saw this animated banner that’s just an Office-type woman looking bored, eating her lunch in front of her monitor as Yell.com scrolls a message suggesting they may be the answer to that boring life. Thought this was a dating service at first because I didn’t recognize Yell.com. Checked out the link though and turns out it’s for the UK version of the Yellow Pages.
Is this: A) missed branding opportunity, B) me underestimating the value of local knowledge, or C) odd placement of a British brand on the Excite US site considering the UK has it’s own domain.
Either way, ‘Yell.com’ has an edge to it you wouldn’t expect from a telecom service. Us Yanks wouldn’t go for something like that here, would we? Well, with the success of Brown and UPS, why not? ‘Yell.com’ would offer the brand a way to open things up a little and shake off the cobwebs. The name references the brand color and it doubles as a strong call to action. Not to mention it plays right off the equity of the UK messaging effort.
Just a thought.
