I once picked up a guy and his wife, after their car broke down on the side of the road (in the old days, you could do that, without getting murdered). They were all dressed up in a nice suit and gown, on their way to a wedding.
Turns out the guy use to manage the New York Dolls. Made my day.
I would say that even now, the New York Dolls are amazing. I had a chance to see them at a small club on Long Island and they blew me away. Yes, there are trappings of Glam, but the Dolls are way more in the Garage rock vein and were Malcolm McLaren's inspiration for the Sex Pistols.

I just never got into that whole glam-rock/cbgb 70's scene for some reason.
