THIS IS AN ADVERTISEMENT.
Do we really need this warning on ads? You see it in ‘SPECIAL ADVERTISING SECTIONS’ in magazines or in regular ads in both the print and online spaces. So I’m at dictionary.com looking up a word. On comes a banner ad with that very disclaimer. (Ok, I fell for the animated smoke drifting from the second ad over to the first, kinda clever.) Still, I know it’s an ad because of the subject matter. I went there for words, not barbecue recipes. Pretty sure I can tell the difference between an ad and well, not an ad. But this happens a lot. Why? Are people that stupid they need a disclaimer like this? I know we’re not. (Well, some of us anyway.)
