Tool, Rush, The Who, Zeppelin. No drummer no band.
On Pearl Jam, though I like Matt Cameron, Dave Abruzezze outruled him based on power and Jack Irons is the man for the job in my view. I was so bummed when he left and though it's my favorite band, I can't help but think about what they would have come up with having other drummers on board, Matt shall forever rule as drummer for Soundgarden but I just don't think he translated as seamlessly into PJ. Also, Chad Smith from RHCP is way underrated and Mars Volta without Jon Theodore promises to blow, I hope I'm wrong.
Now that's not to say there aren't some bands that should benefit from a new drummer. I can think of a few but I'll desist from ranting my ass off further.

Two more examples: The Clash, The Pretenders. Two notable exceptions: Wilco, The Byrds.
I rather liked the first two post-Bill Berry R.E.M. albums, although the third one blew in a big way.
