2+ years old, ad freaks.

Been posting way too much. Why? Because I just saw that this blog was actually two years old last month, having launched in June 2005. So, sorry to miss out on the gala celebration for my one millionth reader. (Yeah right, I wish. Fucking Drudge gets that kind of traffic in one day.)

I’ll spare the link love since I usually throw it out regularly in one form or another, and will likely be doing it again soonly. Instead, I will simply say

thank you
.

To all who have stopped by or referred my blog to others. I coulda’ done it without you. No really, I could. Of course I’d have like only, three subscriptions.

As it is, I’ve taken a long time–in internet lightyear time–to build up decent traffic here. Not AdRants kinda numbers, but I started with just a few months of a handful of friends reading the rants and no subscriptions to a few hundreth-ish a day and 200+ subscribers. Got a lot of contacts from this too and new stuff coming up that I’ll be taking part in, which is thanks to the hours spent in front of a monitor finding Cavemen spots for you to hate. (More details coming next week.)

I probably also coulda’ gotten far more traffic if I’d tried some dumbass fake PR stunt and stayed with just one topic/category like ‘new-fangled tech gadgets,’ but to get all Web 2.0 on you, I’m embracing the long tail of niche blog marketing. As an art director, everything interests me, so everything goes into this blog. Movies. Culture. Cavemen. Tom Cruise. Pharma hate. All of it.
As evidenced by the pic of a Sleestack instead of a birthday cake. If that doesn’t scream niche, what does?

Thanks for reading.

'm coming up on one year, and one of the things I've learned from Uncle Bill is to throw out some linkage to the newbies you like, like AK above or Kym of Thinking in Vain. And blog about whatever.

Also, the more Shatner or Nimoy you have in your blog, the better.

And so, for an anniversary gift, I offer, from the Enterprise Cafeteria Open Mic Night Series, Spock jamming on the Vulcan Autoharp accompanied by Hippie Space Chick on the Bicycle Rim.

Congratulations! If you hadn't noticed, I often frequent your blog and use it as an inspiration for my own. Many people say to blog about one concentrated topic, but that's not as enjoyable; I agree. Thanks for kicking yourself two years ago to start up this great thing.

Thanks for the comments. Now, everyone, get back to work.

;-p

JP, and in that clip, Sting on lead guitar was played by none other than “Tucker McElroy. Lead singer and driver of the Winnebago” in The Blues Bros.

(Played by actor Charles Napier).

And let that be a lesson to everyone: Best not to ever find yourself in a game of Trek Trivia with Bill.
