Okay, I guess when the mainstream media gets their meathooks on a word, you know it’s jumped. Huffington Post is running a ‘Mashup’ contest where you take video from the Yahoo! online Democratic debate and remix it, then–wait for it–submit it to be voted on. (I think the winner gets dinner with Ariana.) Wait, I thought they said ‘mashup,’ no? Where’d remix come from? Anyway, you use this new online editing service called jumpcut.com to edit stuff with but damn if I could even add a simple title to the clip I messed with.
Nice idea to involve the common man in the Democratic process, (although, without the Repubs in the mix, how balanced is this anyway). Still, won’t the real 10+ million view political mashup viral come from someone in Indiana late one night on YouTube though? You know it will.
They won’t do it by using canned footage of carefully posed questions and edited responses either. They’ll do it too by using a clip from some press conference where a candidate goofed that afternoon, splice in some footage from the movie Terminator, and after all those hits later, the geek who did it will be on Letterman. And another thing, when the fuck did Bill Maher start mirroring the Dennis Miller role of smug GOP political commentator for the DNC?
Gimmee Jon Stewart or Colbert instead.
