Help support your local Octopus Project.

Exploring things a bit this weekend and came across The Octopus Project, a band out of Austin, Texas. And because people need labels, they have a funky digi-pop sound, perfect for the post-modern video age! (Look at me playing RS reviewer.) What I dug most however was a video for their song called Truck, (the clip above), created by the Zellner Brothers. In it, the raw footage they use could be anyone’s home video, the kind you take when sightseeing and happen to accidently capture an accident, a twister or a UFO on tape—or, like most of America, not. The 2D graphic overlays on heads is silly, but silly good. Maybe you like it, maybe not. I do. And maybe it’s a small idea, but the animation really works within the beat of the song. Feels like the kind of results you get from just playing around and trying different things that make you go wtf? Like staring into the sun—but only in this video please.
