Super AdFreak and Adrants are both gonna be doing their thing this year, AdFreak has agency creatives stopping by while Steve is incorporating live chat into the site. Worth checking out both. Me, I might just chill and watch the game for a change and hang around both blogs.
A few last-minute thoughts before then...
•Why is the Super Bowl the only time of year when commercials are compared to each other in terms of popularity? Why do it? Watch the spots, take away the few brand memories and thoughts each will give you and chill. Seems messed up that some of them, which, would be deemed good enough on any other day of the year, will end up being regarded the day after as somehow ‘not that good’ when compared to a talking dog holding a beer.
• Yes I know, we help sell stuff, and if we don’t, we get fired. But it also sucks that an agency could be fired because one spot doesn’t chart high enough on the USA Today joke-of-an Ad Meter. I’m checking out YouTube’s page to see what people think and how it compares.
• And if an agency does get the boot Monday morning? Either they should get the same golden parachute CEOs get when they fail to right the brand ship, or the CMO/DOM should also be fired. I know when a spot does well, it’s a team effort, but when it doesn’t, it’s the agency’s fault, but enough’s enough. Brands need to share in the responsibility for their success and failures more.
• Sappy inspirational part: Someone in an agency is going to get a shot to have their work seen by millions, so good for them. It’s hard enough to get stuff by the client every day as it is. So don’t suck. KIDDING. But, a $2.7 mill per :30 media buy aside, shouldn’t agencies aim to do Super Bowl-type worthy ads every single time out? Why save your best for one day out of the year.
• Guess I need football prediction here. Hmmm. Okay, since I ain’t got no dog in this fight, car in this race, ball on this court, lemmmee say ... Giants get no pressure on Brady? Pats by 4 TDs. Giants get to him early and knock his receivers around? Giants by 2—points.
