I saw this weeks ago when Jane Sample started it and wanted to throw one together, so there you have it. (Writing down every brand you use in a day sucks by the way. So does putting them all in a jpeg. I hope science appreciates this.) I put a little spin on it and broke it down this way:
1) Brands I choose to use.
2) Brands I’m exposed to throughout the day. (I only count the ones I noticed, not the 200 magazine titles or 50 kinds of drinks in a newsstand, or countless ads online. All that stuff’s just white noise.)
I did the vertical timeline thing like most people, but then did a different version below. A vertical format doesn’t fully depict the overlapping of multiple brands that happens, (i.e., I could be listening to iTunes and drinking a Pepsi while Googling something in FireFox). Then there’s the issue of how long you use something each day: You may put a Nike shirt on once and forget about it, but in effect, you’re using it the whole day. Lastly, where you are when using something matters too—home, office or other.
Notice how one single type of media can change throughout the day as well, e.g.,radio: You might start listening to your alarm clock in the morning, then switch to the car during your commute, then stream online when you get to work, then back to the car on the way home. Each of those environments in some way affects your brand experience. The medium isn’t just the message, it can be the brand too. (XM satellite radio.)

My god .. that is AMAZING! wow!
Beautiful.
Too bad you can't just create an automatic brand tag cloud wherever you go...
Of course... something like this also might show how pitiful one's love life was. (Or in my case, how the local florist's brand has been replaced by Safeway and Pampers.)
6:59am - breakfast of champions.
mdm - And, chocolate donuts.
@dearjane-Well, you started it. ;-p
@tate-Maybe next year, I need a break after that.
Now we need someone to animate it or we could suggest Jane to do a Doc on it. 24/7 branding.
WHOA this is such a kool idea, I'd love to do one but i suspect i'm far too lazy (finding local brands might be a nightmare too). The timeline is very sexy.
6:53am - Johnnie Walker - priceless!! lol
Don't you have a cellphone? :|
a@dwight-Yep, have a cell, but I didn’t have it with me that day, so had to leave it off the list.
;-p
Houston! We have a problem. He forgot the Charmin.
cuz that's how *I* roll. ;)
