They are. UNICEF has been advocating this idea for years--just not nearly as well. You'd be surprised how much girls and women have to do in developing countries just to keep their families alive. Imagine what they could do if they didn't have to spend 8 hours looking for clean water every day.
The men in those countries haven't been doing so great a job running them. So let's see what happens if girls and women get equal footing.
