Extended Stay live..., er, licks on the edge with new ‘viral.’



Hmmm. Well, didn’t see her in any of the rooms last week. Not really sure where to go with this ‘extended’ clip from Extended Stay I saw on Ectoplasmosis! and AdFreak. Don’t get me wrong, tongues + women = fun, but it sure looks like the brand got fooled into showing how clean their rooms supposedly are using just the single theme of a girl licking everything, even the weight room. Having worked on a few motel accounts, I know budgets for doing original stuff on smaller chains are tight, mostly because the media people convince the brand to flood Yahoo! and Espn with banner ads, leaving nothing for creative. But when someone suggests “Let’s do a viral with a girl licking stuff and direct people to a registration page,” there are plenty of other road trip metaphors to explore first. Ones that don’t reinforce what people already think of motels in general. Why go down this road? (Look at me with the travel metaphors!) Having stayed in mostly $59 a night rooms on tour, trust me, sitting on anything was the last thing on our minds, let alone licking anything.

I hope 1) she got a decent amount of money for this; and 2) her parents NEVER see it.

Well, it worked. I watched the whole thing, and I remember the brand name and the promise. Even the web address. Except now, I think you're having an "extended stay" because you're laid up with E. Coli.
