Because they can?

The Atlantic magazine has a new site called Think Again coming out on 10/14 that asks questions like that, both online and in man on the street style interviews. Seems like they're following somewhat in the footsteps of CNN, which earlier this year decided to ‘own’ the headlines they ran and produce t-shirts from them. Not that this will save the newspaper business, but it does take the concept of print in a compelling new direction online for magazines, something newspapers could mimic. One small rantable thing though: I know this is a multitasking world and that there are fewer and fewer opportunities to slow down and build up to something like this, but the static anticipatory microsite holding page thing here = FAIL. It’s annoying. I need something. Movement. A link. Anything. Just because it’s a magazine doesn’t mean you take a non-interactive approach and bring the lifelessness of print online.
