Retro is the new... retro is in... retro, retro, retro! Two vids I came across this weekend are worth a peek. (Yeah, I actually found non-election stuff to talk about.) First, from Beck comes a new video done by Raging Artists and Eight VFX. Artist/director Jess Holzworth used Chloe Sevigny in a flashback trip via some funky collage work.
Then Time Machine did one called The Unfortunate Twist, with a very cool line illustration style on par with the best of Saul Bass—with a twist.
Both clips touch on the retro theme, but Beck seems to do it more in the music while Time Machine does it in the look. The collage work in Beck’s may be a little more progressive whereas Twist introduces it as just another style in a busy mix. It’s done well; I just could watch funky 60s characters all day by themselves. Where Bass’ line evolved into a story on its own, here, the characters themselves do.
