If you lose your job, we’ll not only pay for the car—we’ll do your laundry and father your children.

Okay, maybe not father; how about play catch with them from time to time. Add GM and Saturn to the list of companies offering Lose Your Job protection in the It’s Not Your Fault era we’re in. A me-too approach after Hyundai came out with it prior to the Super Bowl. Coupla things though.

First, this is nitpicking, but if you’re going to all the trouble to produce TV, follow through and make sure the url actually lands on the exact page that explains what you just alluded to. Saturnconfidence.com takes you here, and it’s a little confusing. They were probably thinking they wanted visitors to see all the programs they offer, but it’s a little unclear as now you’re exposed to multiple messages. “Payment Protection,” although listed in small type in the spot, was never mentioned—confidence was. (Remember, people are out of work and stupid; they need the extra help.) Take them one step deeper to the actual page.

The other thing is, how will the other brands who don’t acknowledge Times Like These do? Ford’s not taking a loan like the other two. Mini-Cooper is running their usual funky ads. So too, VW. They’re not concerned about buybacks and resale value. Not just automotive brands either, but how will they and others that choose to ignore the economy in their messaging fare after the economy rebounds?

@Ruth, thanks for stopping by. Based on the same answer you gave in the other post, I’m guessing you’re out of work and took up blogging in your spare time. Proud a ya! We need more baby parts moneymakers in their spare time.

This is the first time( and not the last) I've actually commented to your blog, and this topic regarding the repositioning of some automobile companies to illustrate empathy in these financially destitute times is remarkable sound. I've myself have labored over how some corporations( lead by their investors and an opportunity to create a quick buck)will repaint themselves empathizing or green in order to seem favorable with a newly conscious( transparently conscious) consumer.

I would hope that those luxury, more foreign car makers, see the slope in their export values become more greater, they too would follow Ford, Saturn, and Hyundai out the gate. But time will tell.

Keep up the good work.
