6-seconds from 1969.
Music freaks, listen up. The Amen Break was a short drum solo on the b-side of a record you likely never heard of, but have heard it by now because the overused break beat sample is everywhere from songs to commercials. This cool doc takes a short but compelling look at the influence it had. What I like about the doc is that doesn’t have the typical talking head interviews. Instead, and in keeping with the theme of the story, it relies mostly on a lockdown shot of a turntable with this robotic narration playing on a dub plate, (an acetate test pressing favored by DJs mixing their own stuff as a quicker way to get it into parties). Now you know.
