Art > life > Art >

It’s art, not real life, but, it’s also doing what art does: Provoke. This Times Square Alliance sponsored work from artist Sofia Maldonado has people in a tizzy. I tizzy I say. While she says her work “intends and aims to represent brave, strong, and tough women who have to overcome struggles in their daily lives and sometimes impose themselves in a male-dominated world,” others say it’s just more stereotypes of black and Latino women. *flips coin* I come out more on the side of the people who feel exploited in the ways expressed by the intent of the artist, not viewers offended by stereotypes that might be foreign to their own experiences. One thing’s for sure: Her asking price just went up. Thanks critics!
