“I don’t tip.”

“You know what this is? It’s the world’s smallest violin, playing just for the waitresses.” Mr. Pink from Resevoir Dogs, and you know the type. Always has an excuse or philosophy on why they don’t tip, or worse, they skip out after the first round and a plate of nachos. “Oh, I’ll catch ya’ later with that I promise. Meeting. Gotta run.” Can you tell I watched too much World Cup action in the bar this week?

For the record, SOP is that I drop 20% unless the waitstaff gives me reason not to. I also do not count the undue influence of extra !!!!’s after the chatroom shorthand of THNX!!!!, usually signed by a ‘Kristi’ or ‘Julie’ with a heart shape over the ‘i’ instead of a tittle.

So Logo freaks, any tipping horror stories to recount?

regardless of the service you receive, giving less than 10% makes you a cheap bastard.

also, shooting the waiter in the parking lot after dinner isn't an option.

Ugh. Don't even get me started on the crappy tipper thing. Two of my boyfriend's closest friends are the cheapest people I've ever had the misfortune to go to a restaurant with. I'm surprised they don't bring along a calculator to make sure they've got everyone's share down to the penny. God forbid they throw in an extra dollar or two.

They "one more thing" the poor waitstaff to death and then complain openly (once they did this while the waiter was AT OUR TABLE) about how being expected to tip around 15% is such highway robbery. They request separate checks long after the order's been taken. If I were their waitress, I'd shoot myself.

And they see absolutely nothing wrong with how they behave. They have zero regard for service industry employees. And yet, they wonder why they get crappy service wherever they go. (Mind you, it rarely starts out as bad service. Hmm. Wonder why that is.)

I'm still of the opinion that everyone should be a waiter, waitress or bartender at least once. Gives you a whole new respect for those jobs and the people who do them. And it teaches you to be much more generous with your tipping.

i will say this: i hate restaurants that have pick-up service, and the person expects a tip. now i'll bet there are restaurant workers who will argue the tip is deserved in this case for reasons i can't imagine. but please. you didn't refill my water glass. you didn't get me an extra napkin. you didn't check by occasionally to make sure everything was cool. so you don't deserve a fucking tip. unless you're really hot.

that being said, admind, 10 percent makes you a cheap bastard, my friend. it's 15 percent minimum.

Also reminds me of that special breed who, after having a full entree, drinks and apps while you only had one round along with the rest of the table, says “why don't we divide it equally among all of us.”

To do this day, my jaw is still dropped after they said that one.

I always tip. Always. Even if the service is "bad" which I've never had anything too horrible. If it's realy bad, then the person needs the money and maybe it'll cheer him or her up.
