CD cover art appreciation day.
Not really. Saw these two though and couldn’t leave well enough alone.
Banjos That Destroy The World. Better title than cover art, but still a funky Strangelove-like aesthetic. Bet Roy Clark is wearing Old Spice right now and piloting that thing at Mach II, the speed of destruction, mister. (Found here.)
Then there’s White Zombie’s Super Sexy Sounds. A perfect blend of the Stereophonic-O-Rama ‘risqué’ look of the sixties with the NC-17 content of today, (unlike the almost pulled-it-off pseudo retro look of a Me First and the Gimme Gimmes). From a design point of view, it’s always a delicate balance.

We were just having this discussion in our office yesterday. I was romantically remembering the day when a good cover was really awesome photography, featuring the band.
Not sure how we got on the subject, but here's the cover that started the discussion...one of my all time faves: The Plasmatics, New Hope for the Wretched
Two Wendy O bits:
- A friend and fellow designer at UConn was a Wendy freak. Shrine at his desk. Everything. Couldn't talk bad about the Plasmatics or her. Ironic that she killed herself in Storrs years later.
- Oddest music skit I ever saw was the Plasmatics playing on SCTV’s The Fishin Musician (Gil Fisher played by John Candy). You can find the clip here. Supposedly producers refused to let her play until she completely covered up both of her breasts, but a makeup artist instead painted everything black so she could play.
Now that's trivia.
So awesome. I forgot how much Richie Stots rocks. 10 feet tall, blue mohawk and a tutu. Kicks ass. Thanks for the flashback.
