Nike Air Insurgent: kids rise up.

For kids, buy kids. The circle is now complete as a new Nike 6.0 site features kids selling the stuff. It’s a cool site and all, don’t get me wrong. The art director in me loves the smooth Flash work and the Old West facade-meets-urban graf look. It just seems though if we’re giving shit to Kobe or some baller from the South Side of Somewhere who leaves high school for the NBA, then certainly the boarder/extreme sports crowd deserves the same treatment.

I’m not singling out Nike alone. The boarding industry can’t wait to get its collecting sticker on the Next Big Thing–even if they only stand 46” tall. Too short for a roller coaster, just right for the halfpipe though. The age hard deck for the marketing madness surrounding youth in our culture is getting lower and lower though. There’s something inherently wrong with calling a 12-year a professional ‘anything.’ What’s next? Pampers trading cards with America’s Cutest Babies on them and appearances on The View and Ellen? Hell, why not include Springer.

They’re old enough now, right?
