I’ve been looking for this clip for a long time because it drove me nuts. Gotomypc.com is a service allowing you to work from your PC remotely, something Macs have been able to do for a long time. Both platforms rendered useless of course if you lose your internet. But I digress. The spot features the current Sci-Fi/horror trick du jour of yanking people up through the air, away from their family obligations and back to work. Thing that I can’t figure out though which is bugging the shit out of me, is where does this kid sound like he was born? South Africa? Germany? The dad is obviously American. It’s like Die Hard 3 with the fake cops that were all 7’ tall. Not that I care where he comes from, but he’s dressed up like he’s the typical American kid with a cap and bat that was bought for the shoot two hours earlier. And that voice. An annoying prep/something that irritates me to no end. To no end I say.

Thank. You.
I have never known what to make of that kid's accent. And it has really, really bothered me for some time. Seriously: I was thinking of this earlier today (seriously!) when I heard a MyPC radio spot. The kid's not even part of the radio spot but that's all I think about when it comes on. It's irritating, incomprehensible and mesmiring all at the same time -- in much the same way Dylan songs are for cylons.
I go with Australian, but if he's Australian doing an American accent he's still doing better most Hollywood actors with, say, Southern accents. I think that's the source of the irritation -- he's pretty good for much of it, and then one word comes along now and then to poke you in the eye.
I'm saying Australian - too clipped for South Africa, too sweet for the UK. Hate that frigging generic hat and that smile in the middle - yikes.
Irish.
Now that we have some guesses, I just wish they’d featured the mom in there so there's some context for the accent. Unless he was stolen fron an Irish orphanage in a botched Womb Raider attempt by Angelina Joli?
We may never know.
