Live by YouTube, die by YouTube.

So there’s this robocall about Barack ‘Hussein’ Obama made on behalf of, well, the caller never actually says, although the masses responding to the story have their theories. After hearing it, the message is clear: don’t trust anyone named Hussein, especially if they’re running for president. Ah, let the mudslinging begi..., um, continue. Considering a few stills and TV clips helped wreck Kerry, Dukakis and Hart, will these tactics still work? Most likely. See, one of the great things about the web is that candidates have more opportunities to get their message out: YouTube debates, blogs, etc. Unfortunately, because of this, new media democratization also means anyone with an internet connection and an agenda can say and do whatever they want. Minor skirmishes aside, this campaign has been relatively free of any Harold Ford-type attack ad. However, at the rate candidates have been putting themselves out there lately, is it just a matter of time before a blog post or YouTube clip does them in?

Wow. Who would have thought I'd be nostalgic for this photo of Hart? Ahh, to think back on the days when we were shocked to see a man holding hands with a fully dressed woman.

Maybe media has gone so far we're no longer shocked by anything. Just got Esquire with four bottomless models on the cover, sweater barely covering them, and practically yawned. If everyone is an animal and everyone has sex, then let's just get past it and vote for candidates who might do the best job.
