Only thing missing from the NHL’s Winter Classic outdoor game on New Year’s Day were the Hanson brothers. No, not them, the other ones. Hockey purists might hate having the game outside, but 73,000+ fans in Buffalo’s nasty weather didn’t seem to mind. Players even remarked after the game how much it reminded them of the times they’d played outside as kids. They should do this more often.

I enjoyed watching this game more than any of the bowl games. It was a brilliant idea. And it was so refreshing to hear how excited all the players and coaches were -- I think one coach said it was "a privilege" to play in such a game. When was the last time you heard pro athletes talk like that?
And the announcer. That was minor league local flavor at its best. He made the “GOOOOOAAALLLL!” futbol guy sound like he was on lithium. (NOT that there’s anything wrong with being on lithium watching soccer, just sayin. So all you freaks fighting over the one keyboard in the halfway house resource room, save your emails.)
I think at one point after Pittsburgh made a stop late in the game he actually said something like “Oh baby! He paid for three and only got one back!”
I gotta listen to it again.
