Thank Apple for Web 2.0.

You remember the moment. Right when Mac OS X first came out. Ooooh. Look at the new shiny happy interface. Glossy reflections on the Apple site even. Sexy! And now? 280 Weeks Later and the virus has taken over the planet. Web 2.0? Thanks Steve. Every fucking logo now has either a faded reflection below it or that stupid glow in the background. Web 2.0 designers even pay homage to the iPhone with, wait for it, reflections on black. Need to make your own? This still works. Like I said, the Amish have it down when it comes to Web 2.0. No logos. No reflections. No reflections on logos. My work here is done.

Go with Steve.

I should never have talked to you about the Amish.

Brilliant take-down. I've often thought Apple telegraphs their next hardware design by building software that reflects the motif -- I think OS X moved to the steel windows right before all the laptops switched to aluminum.

The thing you point out that I can't figure is why do general style trends take over a culture? Big hair in the 80s. Moustaches in the 70s. Bad carpet in the 60s. Why do we all want to look alike?

PS I'm shaving my head and swapping the dark glasses frames.

It has moved into packaging of food products. I was drinking a True Blue blueberry juice yesterday and noticed the logo on the bottle. Check it out.
