Good things happen on a Friday night, if you have a Camaro—and Esteban!

When I first saw him in the GEICO spot, I was like, no way this dude’s real. Forgive me Esteban, you are real. More realer? HSN hostess with the mostest sold Chris Scanlon! Who knew such enthusiasm existed beyond the walls of QVC. Not the luthier hard at work on The Esteban Camaro Legend Limited Edition Guitar Package! (There’s video there of his daughter on violin jamming with dad from an earlier segment.) Better still, Chris’ emotional plea to the masses, imploring them to order now. Notice the masterful appeal to our collective sense of musthaveitnowness, albeit less smoothly than some when she posits: “Do you know how many people on Earth will not be able to own this very special guitar?” (Um, most?) As I ponder the deeper meaning at work in that statement, I realize Chris need not worry anymore because it’s obvious based on the numbers that the unimaginable will fail to materialize: People are ordering in droves! There are now 7,000+ very special people who do know how lucky they are, each having forked over their $197.95, to the tune of about 1.4 million in sales.

Badass 6-string Camaro—thy name is Esteban!

What happens when you click on "some" -- that's why I read each and every word here.

There have been times, usually after a few soda pops, when I've turned over to HSN and convinced myself that I wasn't watching TV shopping so much as a very nuanced sub-genre of performance art.
