For all...

ALL YOUR PAINT-HAPPY LITTLE BASTARDS R BELONG TO US. (They don’t call them memes for nothing.) See, I don’t have a problem with the message, after all, land of the free and all that. And I understand in times like these how you might not be able to afford your own billboard, just make sure you know the origin of your religious fervor. The Pledge’s author Francis Bellamy, a Christian Socialist, never wrote the words “under God” in the first few iterations.* The verse was written in 1892 as a celebration of the 400th anniversary of Columbus’ little sojourn here. Only in 1948 was the use of of “Under God” added and later adopted. And that Nazi-looking salute up top? Developed at none other than the Bellamy Institute and later changed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to avoid trouble.

*Christian Socialist. They have those?
