The Mallo Cup is your friend.

Got a Basket-O–Chocolate over the holidays from some friends. Comfort chocolate basically, because let’s face it, isn’t that what chocolate is? (Shhh. Don’t answer.) In it was every form of chocolate I grew up on, (short of Yoo-hoo). Score! But also included in this sugar coma collection was a niche little product I like to call...

The Boyer’s Mallow Cup.

Oh sure, Reese’s had combined peanut butter with chocolate, but the Boyer brothers had something else in mind. Lose the peanut butter—we’re putting mallow in there instead. Mallo, people, mallo. And little crunchy things on top. Rice Crispie-like crunchy things. But the coolest part?

The coin card.

A standard insert that’s pre-internet, pre-cable TV, pre-TV. You didn’t and you don’t go to a website to see if your card won anything—you mail it in and wait 4-6 weeks. Say it with me: 4-6.

No, don’t be sad, this builds anticipation in a gotta have it now age. You might actually win something—you’ll just have to wait. And wait.

Read the copy closer in the card. “Send for your valuable prize catalog.” You have a choice of what you might win. How amazing is THAT? Email address? How about don’t forget your zip code. The killer line though?

“Stick on tape to avoid delay.”

Which, you do because you fear an errant breeze in the fulfillment center might prevent the card from reaching its intended destination, thus cheating you of whatever form of cheap plastic you might have a shot at. Speaking of, you’ll only have to buy 50 packs, (two in each), in order to save 500 points—to get $1.00 off. Subtract the cost of postage and you’re nearly almost .60¢ ahead!

Try that with a Snickers.

YES! I know this nasty, wonderful little candy. Much better than Moon Pies! Remember Milk Duds, too! Tootsie Pops, however, will always be in the bottom of my bag!

The number of points you get with each package varies. One of my co-workers gave me a 50 point card the other day. just a few more of those and I will be getting my $1 check. I will remember to "Stick on tape to avoid delay."

I was always puzzled by that saying "Stick on Tape to Avoid Delay". You mean tape the coins together, like all the dimes, nickels, quarters? Or all the coins in a sort of random order? Or stick them all on a piece of paper? Or stick tape on the envelope so that it doesn't break open? Why would your rebate be delayed if you didn't stick on tape? What the heck does that MEAN?
